Her professional career began as a licensed mortician, and she now practices estate planning and elder law with emphasis on long-term care planning, asset protection, estate administration (probate), trusts, litigation, and mortuary law. She obtained her law degree from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and earned Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Minnesota in Biology, Physiology, and Mortuary Science. She is a member of NAELA, an active member of the ABA, and was appointed as a Commissioner on the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging (COLA).

As the Director of Legal Education, Jim is responsible for creating, curating, and promoting educational content related to the estate planning and elder law industry. Jim has several years of experience educating attorneys and helping them easily implement elder law tools into their practice. Since the dynamic of the elder law industry is constantly changing and the need for more elder law attorneys continues to grow, Jim is driven to use his knowledge and passion to educate attorneys. Jim is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) as well as the Colorado, Utah, and Florida Bar Associations (inactive).
